Accommodation at California Meadows
Suitable for tents, small camper vans or caravans.
A small campsite, lies in the meadows near Priest Way. Its size makes it suitable for hire by small groups such as scouts, schools, climbing/walker groups etc, it is only a couple of fields from the cliffs and the southwest coast path.
A toilet block provides WC and cold water wash basins (please note this is a rustic campsite and there are currently no on-site showers). A firepit, away from the tents, can be used for small evening gatherings.
The owners are committed to environmental and conservation issues. Visitors are encouraged to use the recycling bins, not to use disposable barbecues and to use the firepit provided and keep noise to a minimum. Dogs are welcome and should be kept under control.
Walkers and cyclists are particularly welcome. Backpacks and luggage can be transported to other sites for you if needed.
We now have two original late 19th century shepherds huts available for hire. The smaller hut (called Billy Wix) can sleep 2 adults, the larger hut (called Laughing Betsy) can take up to 3 people. Both shepherd huts look out across Swanage with sea views, and are set in their own small gardens.
One hut has heating and lighting and a kettle for hot drinks, but no other cooking facilities (other than barbecue). There is a shared composting toilet and shower facilities. There is also a flushing toilet at the campsite, a short walk away.
The huts are perfect for a quiet, cosy, rustic retreat and have inspired several writers and musicians.
Please note, fees do not include bedlinen or towels, but duvets and pillows are provided.
